If you follow me on Instagram, you know that my parents moved into a new home in the middle of a pandemic (and if you don’t follow me on Instagram, what are you doing? It’s linked in the sidebar!) The same circumstances also postponed my moving out and into my own place. I was pretty disappointed initially, but I decided to make the most of the time I have left living rent-free by making my new space my own.
The Room Redesign series will document me turning this blank slate into an inviting space I never want to leave (okay, maybe eventually, but still).
The Before
We moved in at the height of the quarantine craziness, so naturally, decorating was not at the top of the priority list. But once things simmered down a little, I tackled re-styling the bed. The bedroom furniture I have was thrifted years ago, and it just made sense/cents to keep it. (I’ve linked a similar bed frame here– not an affiliate link). I also brought along the bedding I’d had since I was in my early teens, and looking back now, I can’t help but cringe. I mean, it was like Cheetah Girls meets Carole Baskin on steroids. Change was definitely needed!
The After
I wanted the vibe of my redesigned bedroom to be luxurious and inviting, but the industrial iron bed frame posed a challenge. I decided to work around it and strive for an “industrial chic” aesthetic with a blush and black color palette and hints of white and gold. Now here are all the elements that made the transition possible!
Comforter- Target
Also chronicled on Instagram, I originally ordered Hand and Hearth bedding, but when it arrived, the color was not as advertised. I ended up having to scrap everything and spent WEEKS looking for a replacement. I finally settled on this Christian Siriano set, also from Target. I say settled but it’s still growing on me. The ruching and design are not something I would normally gravitate to, but with all the other accessories, they work.
Pillows- Various Sources
I’m a firm believer that you can never have too many pillows on your bed. They give an air of luxury and make it seem like you put tons of effort into styling your bed! What I don’t believe in though, is blowing a paycheck on decorative pillows that end up on the floor every night. Every pillow on my bed was under $20.
Starting from front to back, the white lumbar pillow was the most expensive, at $16.99. I splurged on this one because I needed some white to break up all the blush, and this was the first white pillow I found on this side of the Mississippi. No surprise here, I purchased it at Target.
Next are the blush sherpa square pillows. These were $5 each from my (second) favorite place- Five Below. The sherpa fabric is just like what’s used to line the inside of hoodies, so the pillows are extra soft. I love that they have a tinge of white in them as well!
Last are the standard pillows. The ruched standard pillow cases came with the comforter and match perfectly. And tucked in the very back are the pillows I actually sleep on. I lucked up and found the rose-colored silk pillow cases for only $5 each at Target! Silk and satin pillow cases are great for your skin and will protect your natural hair. Not only are these cases fashionable, but they’re functional, too!
Throw Blanket- TJ Maxx
As an added accent, I snagged this cute fuzzy throw blanket from TJ Maxx for only $16.99. It adds some color variation to the otherwise monochromatic bedding while still complimenting the comforter. And who doesn’t love a fuzzy blanket!?
Wall Art
Maybe it’s just me, but there seems to be a shortage of wall art in my area. Walking into my local TJ’s, Ross, Target, etc, you’d think we’re in an interior design apocalypse. So I’ve decided I’m going to make my own wall art for the space on the wall above my “headboard”. I went browsing through Pinterest and found some inspiration for an ombre pink piece that I’ll be recreating soon! Until next time- Sweet Dreams!
